About This Site

... We suddenly see that we knew nothing before, only the glitter and the red of blood. This now is a Pandora's Box. - Kenneth Anger

This site is not intended to harm, engulf or entertain anyone.

It is about a tragic case of real-life murder.

Having discussed this case with thousands of folk, many have conveyed they don't understand the fascination with The Black Dahlia. They say there are cases much more interesting, and much more current - cases that demand more attention...

And they're right. While I was once so obsessed with the murder of Beth Short I was willing to trade even a college degree to stay home and keep plugging away at finding more evidence, I've learned that time is precious. Today, I simply continue to be intrigued at the ever-changing shape this case has taken over the years. I am, to this day, obsessed with the study of murder in all aspects, on more of an educational level than anything. I don't find crime scenes (in photographic detail or real-life) to be appetizing, but engrossing because of the severity of it all.

I've written about murder, watched the aftermath of a homocidal maniac's actions, attended murder trials, studied murdered cases and read hundreds of scenarios and cases about murder all in itself, professionally and personally. With all this, I vary my daily reading style by mixing in classic fiction and light magazine articles. Yet it's the thriller and mystery novel that tend to whet my appetite more than anything.

The Black Dahlia Web Site, hopefully, is just a beginning of the delve into true case histories, solved or unsolved. I recommend you set aside a little time, and delve into each aspect. You're likely to gain a great deal of knowledge. If not just about the Black Dahlia and its surrounding factors, but also about crimes like this in general.

The case of Elizabeth Short is so gruesome, yet so intriguing, it, at times, seems like a piece of fiction. I assure you, it is not.

What you view here is either real (noted as such) or speculative by visitors or myself (noted as such). Comments are always welcome. Anonymity is considered on individual basis (discretion and permission used).

Anyone wanting to share opinions, facts, graphics, photos or actual case information is welcome - anything and everything will be considered.

This site is controversial...

When I started this site in February of 1997, I never expected to receive the praise and disgust I've encountered, nearly daily. I regularly receive kudos and thanks, as well as condescending notes (some even threatening). I've found there is no true demographic of who visits this site, nor of those who send along comments. And while false applauding for the crime itself is a rarity, there are those who wish this site never existed - some members of Beth's family have conveyed their disgust for the information posted, a journalist has refused to speak to me because the site includes some links to publicly available photographs, and others just wish they could forget all about the year 1947, a beautiful young lady and the LAPD, and just move on with their lives.

I'm not here to keep Beth Short from her own peace. I believe every crime deserves one, single response - a response that is resounding and appropriate; a response that resonates forever. That response is justice. And until there's an absolute, non-disputable truth about what actually happened some 60 years ago, this site shall remain, as a forum for anyone to obtain and share information.

Some more about the site...

This Web site is a personal project that started in February 1997. It is funded by nothing more than myself, a few who have advertised and sponsored some bandwidth, some affiliate programs, and a button I created. Bandwidth for the site runs anywhere from $100 to $600 in a given month. While I've taken some time off in the past, the average time spent working on the site and answering emails is about 6 hours a week.

This site is not intended to be means of anyone's monetary profit. For that reason, I strive to maintain a balance and non-biased aspect of the death of Beth Short.

Best,

Pamela Hazelton, Webmaster, etc.
